Getting in the Spirit ...

Okay....it has been a LONG time. I've really missed blogging about decorating. I have been super busy lately .... but things are starting to slow down and it is definitely time to start decorating again. A lot of things have changed in my life of late and it has really made me dread the holidays. BUT......I know exactly what can get me out of this Scroogie mood (yes. I made that up. ) ....CHRISTMAS DECORATING! This year I think i will start with my mantle. Here are a few ideas I've collected...maybe it can give you a head start on your Christmas decor!

Nantucket..here I come

I love the beach. Who doesn't? After just returning from Destin Fl, I've decided that I will own a cottage beside a body of water. lake. river. ocean. creek. I will not discriminate!
 The following pictures are how I would decorate my cottage retreat

Making a comeback

Wall paper Wall paper Wall paper...
 just writing that makes me tired. When I first moved into my house it had this hideous lighthouse border all around the top of the kitchen. It took FOREVER to scrape it off...and all the while I'm thinking..."why in the world would anyone want to do this to a perfectly fine wall??" Now...my house is completely and totally wallpaper free. Great! Right?...
No.
Now I want wallpaper again ...but not the ugly & outdated mess that might be found in your grandparents dining room. The modern patterns are absolutely gorgeous!

 Let's see if you get the fever after seeing these pictures...

Savannah Antiques

My mom and I took a vacation to Savannah Georgia in April for my birthday. We couldn't take a trip to Savannah without some antiquing! Let me just tell y'all...this is not the same antiquing that we do in Alabama.This furniture has history and they really think A LOT of it. The furniture is beautiful. Enjoy these pictures from the 3 main antiques stores we visited...

{JD Weed & Co}
http://www.jdweedco.com/antiques.html

I really enjoyed visiting this store. This company has been around since 1816! The man that owns the store excepts nothing but the best...He restores and re creates custom pieces for the beautiful historic homes of Savannah and other historic homes around the nation. Here are a few things that I loved!

{Jere's Antiques}

This place is HUGE! If anyone plans on decorating their house with antiques...then this is the place to visit! This antiques warehouse has an entire attic full of Victorian style chairs. Take a look at some interesting pieces that caught my eye.

                                                     {The Attic Antiques}
                               The Attic Antiques had a lot of unique artwork, quirky gifts,
                                                       & a beautiful view of the river.

I really enjoyed visiting Savannah. My favorite part of our trip was the ghost tours...Paula Deen's chicken pot pie , and the shopping...of course! I can't wait to go on another trip with my Mom..Thanks for the trip..it was an awesome birthday present! =) Ill leave y'all with some pictures of Tybee Island.
Tybee Island is about 15 minutes outside the city of Savannah, and is where Mom and I stayed.

 I special ordered the fabric from JoAnn's and the paint color is {Tightrope} by Valspar

Before

After

Paint color Tightrope by Valspar
Stain color Dark Walnut by Rustoleum

Here are a few hints to make your DIY a success...
1. do NOT try to rush ...if you are inpatient then you might be looking at a MESS at the end of your project.
2. sand evenly to avoid darker areas
3. put animals outside.
4. Sand all surfaces with multiple grit sandpaper. Read directions on stain, it will tell you the texture sandpaper to use.
5. sanding+painting=mess....always have a drop cloth handy, wet paper towels, and dry paper towels to clean up as you go along.
